DAY 1 21ST SEPTEMBER SC

Today we had the introductory session for the delegates in our committee. We had all the teachers of our committee join along with us to give all the delegates a briefing about the process. We then moved on to introduce them to the topics that were going to be discussed in the committee for the final sessions and after we did that we told them the topic that was going to be discussed for the mock debate. Before beginning the mock debate we ensured that if anyone was new to MUN they should feel free to ask questions and put forward their doubts to any one of us or the teachers present in our committee. Then we moved onto continuing with the mock debate topic. We had many delegates actively participating in the debate even though they all were a little hesitant in the beginning. All the delegates took a stand on the topic either against or for the topic justifying the choices for the same. We even had our teachers giving their inputs and debate along with the students which made our session more fruitful and interesting. We made sure and corrected the delegates to refrain from using personal pronouns and since it was their first day, they made a conscious effort to maintain the decorum of a MUN. As the Head and the Co-head of the Security Council, we think that today’s session was quite productive and we are looking forward to more of these sessions and with similar enthusiasm from the delegates.

DAY 2 22nd september -SC

Head’s reflection: The agenda for today’s session was to introduce the procedures and the sequence of the final debate session. We also introduced the delegates to the various procedures and the separate format for the Security Council. We also briefed the delegates about the rules and regulations for the debate so that the delegates can start following the procedures. We had a mock debate on three different topics for the remaining time. We even had the Deputy Sec Gen come into the committee and stir up the debate by giving her stand on the issue. The topics for the debate were: Does feminism go against or support gender equality? hould euthenasia be legalised and should capital punishment be legalised?

These topics garnered relevant inputs and practical points from the delegates. All the delegates stated their stand on the issues. The delegates tried their best and adhered to the rules and regulations of the MUN and maintained the decorum. The committee was chaired by the co-head today and I took part in the debate in order to prevent the committee from getting stuck on one point or targeting any particular delegate. The delegates weren’t speaking a lot at first and the second topics. However, the third topic did have a greater number of speakers for the debate.

Co-Head’s Reflection: To begin with today's session we introduced all the delegates with the procedures of the debating and what language the delegates are supposed to use during their debating session. Since we are in the security council we had to explain how the committee works as well.We ensured all the delegates switched their cameras on but since some were facing difficulties with the net they couldn't turn it on.After we were done with the briefing with the rules and regulations we asked all the delegates if they had any doubts. Since the delegates had understood the procedure well we moved on to introduce the topics for mock debate and the topics were: “ DOES FEMINISM GO AGAINST OR FOR GENDER EQUALITY”, “ SHOULD EUTHANASIA BE LEGALISED”, “SHOULD CAPITAL PUNISHMENT BE LEGALISED”. For the first topic we did not have much delegates to speak and after stating two points the delegates asked for changing the topic so we changed the topic to the second topic for which we allowed them to research for 5 minutes in order to be able to put forward valid points. When we moved on to continue with the second topic debate again only two delegates went for the topic and again there was a request for changing the topic. We then had our deputy sec gen chooses a good topic for the debate and she even enlightened the delegates with her thought on the topic and the debate turned out to be good and lengthy. All the delegates debated with much more confidence in this session. This session was indeed productive and the delegates are now more comfortable with how the procedures work and by the end of the week they should be very confident with what they are presenting and speaking.

DAY 3- 23rd september- Security Council

Co-Heads reflection: Today we started the session with letting the delegates know their countries that we had chosen for them the other day. Today’s session we had our head explain all the delegates about the esolution paper as well as the position paper. Rishabh also went on to explain one of the examples of resolution paper from the handbook provided so that the delegates have a much clearer idea of how to go on with the resolution and the position paper. There was a large number which was absent today.Delegates are either facing network issues or not coming at all . The ones who are present everyday are moving on to speak well for instant Angelina, Shiv few others. The resolution explained by the head worked well for the delegates as it would have cleared their doubts about how to go about the resolution paper since it is a lot different for the Security Council.According to me the debate sessions are going a little weak. We need a lot of delegates to speak up in order to have a strong debate session .Delegates need to speak up inorder to make each debate count. We need better topics for mock debates in order to catch their interest so that they can debate well. Other than that the day was productive and we are moving forward slowly but successfully.

DAY 4 24th September - Security Council

Today we began our session by introducing the two topics to the delegates. The first topic was explained by the head and the second topic was introduced by the co head. We made sure that the delegates do enough research to know what role their country plays in the topics provided for them to debate upon. We then moved on to choose a topic for the mock debate topic. One topic was suggested by Rajeev sir. The topic was “ The new education System in India”. Since many of us were not aware of this happening sir suggested that the delegates do a little research. We had the sec gen come in and let the delegates know about the online MUN rules and procedures. After the delegates were told about the online procedures we continued for them to do more research and then we had the head show the delegates a video on the new education system in order to make it much clearer for the delegates. We then decided to have the debate on this topic the next day since we had run out of time. The attendance was the same as yesterday but we are expecting it to increase in the coming days.

DAY 5- 25th September- Security Council

For today's session we had planned to conduct a fruitful debate session with the delegates. We had come up with 10 debate topics for the delegates to choose and debate upon. We waited for delegates to come for 15 minutes and no one showed up. Some had network issues. They kept coming and leaving the meeting. Some students told us their laptop is restarting and some had informed us beforehand that they won't be coming for the session. We waited along with the teacher’s for the delegates to come. Once we had two delegates we thought of starting the debate but as soon as we took their name they would leave the meeting. This kept happening until 12:25. After that we had only one student so we had no other choice but to let her research on the topics that were going to be discussed in the committee on the final day.

Day 6- 28th september- Security Council.

Today we had a session in the evening after our classes had ended. We joined the class links and had informed all the delegates about the session beforehand. We had a large number of people come in for today’s session. The attendance was 90% today. There were 11 delegates present out of 15 delegates. It was very nice to see delegates speaking and having a good session. We had given them an option to choose between 4 topics and the topic they chose to debate upon was “Should security guards in schools be armed?” This topic made a very interesting debate. All the delegates had participated and it was very interactive. We were not given a chance to pick one by one in order for them to speak. We have very confident speakers as well such as Angelina Rajwadi and Shiv Manish Punjabi. They have shown their full activeness till now. All other delegates are speaking very well as well. They just require to speak a little more openly and confidently. Today we had one of the most interesting discussions and it was worth it. We are looking for such sessions in the coming days and hoping for full attendance as well.

DAY 7- 29th September - Security Council

Today’s session was also a debate session. We had a good number of students coming in. We had 11 delegates out of 15.Today again we had thought of giving the delegates a choice between topics but thought it would be more time consuming so we gave them a topic we chose. The discussion was not very active so we decided to change the topic and asked if the delegates had any particular choice for the topic but no one spoke up so we gave them a choice between two topics and they chose “Religion does more harm than it does good”. When this topic was introduced the committee was very active in debating. We had Angelina, Arnav and Rudra with active participation and we had Lingha Prabhu with very good facts coming in and enlightening the committee with their facts and points stated. All other delegates were very active too.Today again they didn't give us a chance to call out their names and force them to speak and they were all speaking willingly and the debate was very productive and fruitful. We hope to have such a debate on the final day as well and wish that all the delegates participate and show up and give us full attendance. The committee has been doing amazing with the help of all our teachers. Looking forward to such sessions in the near future.
